Today was my first day of my Stemersion: To The Woods. Most of the class involved us going over our everyday schedule, talking about what rules we had to follow when we would go off to parks, or go outside for recces. Then after that, we discussed how to write nature-poetry and read an article about a guy named David Thoreau, who was apparently considered one of the first nature writers. The article was pretty good, talked a lot about how he used a journal to collect his findings when he was out in nature.
After a lunch break and a twenty minute recces, we then went over to the pond next to the school and too the challenge to be quiet for exactly 10 minutes while making observations of our surroundings. I took great notice of the amount of other people who were out canoeing on the water. I could hear the water crash up against their oars as well as the wind blowing the waves against the bank. Their were some birds on a nearby bank, including several dozen geese (a few of them had their young with them). All at once, they herded themselves into the water almost as if on cue.
The sun came out from the overhead clouds at times, making the waves sparkle and illuminating the water nearest to the shore. There were a massive amount of cattails on the eastern side of the pond, making it impossible to circle the whole thing. The rest of the shoreline had a few scattered cattails, grasses, small daisy-looking flowers, fallen leaves from the patch of woods behind us, and a lot of goose poop.

When we had concluded our ten minutes, we returned inside where we wrote about our experience/observations in our blogs, and ended the day with a 45 minute yoga lesson. All in all, not too bad for my first day.
